On Saturday, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), said he understood the suffering of Nigerians brought on by the recent spike in national insecurity.

He did this as he repeatedly promised the populace that his government was working to enhance the security forces so they could better handle all sorts of security concerns.

This was said by Buhari on October 1, 2022, during his final Independence Day speech to the nation.

‘As we continue to de-escalate the security challenges that confronted us at the beginning of this administration, newer forms alien to our country began to manifest, particularly in the areas of kidnappings, molestations, killings of innocent citizens, and banditry, all of which are being addressed by our security forces, ‘the president said.

I understand the suffering that Nigerians are going through, and I can tell you that your tenacity and endurance will not go in vain as long as this administration keeps repositioning and fortifying the security agencies to equip them to handle all kinds of security crises.

At the inception of this administration in 2015, I provided the funding requirements of the security agencies which was also improved in my second tenure in 2019 to enable them to surmount security challenges. We will continue on this path until our efforts yield the desired results.
