Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has mandated the disbandment of all statutory Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals in Niger State. In addition, he has ordered the termination of all Political Appointees who were appointed before May 29, 2023.

This was contained in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, and shared with newsmen.

Usman clarified that ‘Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals that are tenured or not tenured are also affected by the dissolution and urged concerned officials to comply immediately with the directive.’

Cognizant of their positive contributions to the growth of the State and the affairs of their office, the SSG directed ‘those affected by the dissolution to hand over all Government properties including official vehicles in their possession to the most senior Director in their respective organizations.’

‘The Governor wishes members of the dissolved Commissions, Boards, Parastatals and Political Appointees success in their future endeavours, the statement stressed.’

The timing of this directive coincides with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s announcement a few weeks ago, in which he dissolved all boards and parastatals under the Federal Government. This move has been met with widespread approval, as it is seen as a significant step toward system sanitization and improvement.

The individuals affected by this directive consist of directors general, coordinators, project managers, senior special assistants, special assistants, political assistants, ward ambassadors, and personal assistants to political appointees.

The dissolution of the statutory Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals does not imply the immediate cessation of the incumbents’ roles. They will continue to hold office and fulfill their responsibilities in compliance with the relevant laws governing their appointments.

However, the statement explicitly stated that the political appointees must delegate the duties of their offices to either the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective agencies.
