The Ogun State Police division in Ogun State on Tuesday has nabbed and detained four suspected members of the Eiye cult group for causing mayhem in the State.

They were nabbed while holding a nocturnal meeting “in preparation for an attack to be launched on members of another cult group.”

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the suspects as Oriyomi Bankole (a.k.a Ortom), Odedina Sodiq, Shofola Ayodeji and Adelawa Ayo.

Oyeyemi said they were nabbed at different locations in Oke-Lantoro and the technical college at Leme.

Their arrest, according to Oyeyemi, followed credible information received by the police about their meeting and the plan to launch an attack after their meeting.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, had ordered the CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin-led anti-cultists section to dislodge the hoodlums.

“In compliance with the CP’S order, the team moved to the scene at about 8:30 pm where the four amongst the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped,” Oyeyemi said.

He added that cutlasses, a battle axe and criminal charms were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the CP has assured Ogun residents that “the command will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.”

In another report, three persons were reportedly killed in Ogun State on Tuesday as some suspected cultists engaged one another in Abeokuta, the State capital.

The clash was as a result of the gruesome killing of a suspected Aiye cult member on Sunday.

It was learnt that the victim’s colleagues went on rampage in an attempt to avenge the death of the area boy, popularly known as Wale.

A security agent informed Newsmen that two persons were killed around Slaab and Amolasho in the early hours of Tuesday.

Also, one person was killed in front in front of a filling station at Ijaye area of the metropolis as the rival cult groups ‘overran’ the State capital on Tuesday morning

“The corpses have been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary,” the source said.

In an attempt to restore normalcy, the Ogun State police command had deployed its men to the affected areas, but the cultists were said to have engaged the police in a gun battle.

The incident has since paralysed commercial activities around Ijaye and Iyana Mortuary as residents and motorists took cover.
