Gunmen Invade Bayelsa, Kill 2 Police Officers, Injure Many

Some yet-to-be-identified Gunmen have attacked and killed two policemen, three civilians, and left several others injured in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that a vehicle that was conveying the police officers and some civilians were attacked by the gunmen while coming from a colleague’s burial on Saturday.

In a statement, signed and sent to Africa Daily News, New York on Sunday, through the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, he stated that ‘On 14 May, 2022, at about 0745 hours, gunmen ambushed Policemen serving at Rivers Command, at Idema- Otuabagi Road, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, while returning from burial of a colleague, late ASP Gilbert Sampson, at Imago Kugbo, Rivers State.’

The statement continued that, ‘the suspected gunmen opened fire at the vehicle conveying the Police officers and other civilians. In the process PC Asuo Osuani ‘m’ and Special Constabulary Odeoye Sampson ‘m’, Mr Terry Lucky ‘m’, Jennifer Adejo ‘f’ and Asueroh Tobins ‘f’ were fatally shot and later died, while Inspector Urere Edwin, Rejoice Sampson ‘f’ and Reward Sampson ‘f’ sustained bullets injuries and are responding to treatment’

He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ben Nebolisa Okolo had ordered a manhunt for the gunmen who perpetrated the dastardly act.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that in a related development, some Gunmen who kidnapped Sefi Jimoh, a middle-aged widow and mother of four children a few days ago, have now demanded a ₦10 million ransom from her family.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that Jimoh was kidnapped on the road on Saturday while she was reportedly waiting for a commercial motorcycle, popularly called ‘Okada’ to go home after a morning prayer session at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church at Phase II in the Lokoja metropolis.

Jimoh who is an Environmental Officer with the Kogi State Government is said to be the breadwinner of the family, having lost her husband some years back.
