Following the Abuja–Kaduna train attack the Federal Government has been urged by Azurfa Lois’ family to intervene quickly and stop the terrorists from being killed off by her kidnappers.

Christian Lois, age 21, was taken hostage on March 28 while on the Abuja-Kaduna train when it was assaulted by ISWAP militiamen. Lois has been held captive ever then.

On August 20, Tukur Mamu, a past mediator between the families of the hijacked passengers and the terrorists, alerted authorities to the fact that the kidnappers had indicated a desire to marry Lois; the recent development has thrown the girl’s family into dismay.

To prevent a repeat of the situation that happened to Leah Sharibu, he then appealed to the government and the Christian Association of Nigeria to promptly intervene in the situation.

It appears the family had been abandoned following the Mamu’s alert, according to Moses Bali, Lois’ older brother, who spoke to reporters about the incident on Sunday.

He explained that the terrorists’ menace had intensified the family’s worry about her release from captivity, and he appealed to the government to stop her sister from being married.

Bali said, ‘Nobody has reached out to us or any of our relatives. We are not aware of any effort taken to ensure that my sister is not married off. Although, everyone seems to have moved on after the threat by the kidnappers to marry my sister off, but we the family have not.’

‘The threat has increased the fears we have had about her return. We don’t want the same thing that happened to Leah Sharibu to happen to my sister.’

‘I am appealing to the government to come to our aid. We have nobody and as law-abiding citizens, I believe the right place to channel our plea is the government. The government should please act fast.’

The situation is a frightening one as this has kept Lois’ family anxious about what would become of their daughter since the government has indicated little or no concern after the train attack; now, the terrorist had conspired to wed the young lady off.
