Atiku Abubakar who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to the news of Justice Tanko Muhammad’s indefinite resignation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Africa Daily News, New York had earlier reported that Justice Tanko had resigned his position on Monday over  some reported health issues. President Muhammadu Buhari had also subsequently, sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the new acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

Africa Daily News, New York last week reported that about 14 justices of the Supreme Court had written him a letter to lament the decrepit state of affairs in the apex court.

In the leaked letter, the Justices accused the CJN of refusing to address the issues despite drawing his attention to them.

They complained of a lack of residential accommodation and vehicles at the court.

The justices further accused the CJN of gallivanting with his ‘spouse, children and personal staff,’ while not allowing them to travel with an assistant on foreign trips.

The justices decried the lack of legal research assistants, despite the magnitude of cases being adjudicated.

“I wish the newly sworn-in Acting CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariowoola, success as he steps in to fill the gap and assure him of my commitment to advancing the frontiers of judicial independence and the promotion of separation of powers as the bedrock of deepening democracy and development”.
