220 Houses Destroyed By Windstorms In Jigawa

Terrible Windstorms have destroyed no fewer than 220 houses and properties worth millions of naira in some communities of Jahun Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

The Chairman of Jahun LGA, Ado Mai Unguwa, confirmed the incident to reporters on Thursday.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the affected areas included; Kale, Kargo and Buraburi.

He, however, sympathised with the victims of the disaster and promised to support the affected families.

A resident told reporters that the incident occurred on Tuesday night, rendering hundreds of families homeless.

He said the windstorms blew off the roofs of some houses and some public buildings in the area.

He, therefore, urged the state and government to support the victims.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with families over loss of lives in the Sabon Gari, Kano, gas explosion in which nine casualties were reported.

He also directed officials to provide adequate treatment for the injured persons.

‘The gas explosion in Kano is very sad. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery,” said the President.

‘In this moment of profound grief, I pray to the Almighty to bestow strength upon the families of the victims, the government and people of Kano State and urge them to bear this irreparable loss,’ the President stated in a release circulated by his media aide, Garba Shehu on Wednesday.

The President also commended the immediate steps taken in response to the incident by the agencies of the State Government, National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, the military, Police and other agencies of the Federal Government.
