Kwara Govt Begs Doctors To Suspend Strike

The Kwara State government has sacked the Provost of the College of Education, Ilorin, Professor Abdulraheem Yusuf.

Yusuf, who has almost 12 months more before the expiration of his tenure was allegedly engaged in running battles with the management and staff of the institution since the assumption of office.

The altercation with the management had bordered on maladministration.

His sack letter, Africa Daily News, New York gathered was delivered on Friday.

Professor Yusuf was replaced by Dr Ahmed Jimoh Ayinla, a staff of the college who is to act as the new provost of the institution.

Our correspondent gathered that the newly constituted governing council of the college was overwhelmed with petitions against the sacked provost which it acted upon leading to his removal.

When Africa Daily News, New York called the sacked provost on phone to react to the development at about 8.25am on Sunday, he said ‘I am in a meeting now, I will call back when I finish the meeting.’

He, however, did not call till the time of this report.

The state government, spoke on the development through the spokesman to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirming that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq approved the provost’s sack was in line with extant laws.

The law, according to findings only mandates due consultations with the relevant bodies, in this case, the institution’s governing council as the case may be,” he declared.

The governor has also directed the governing council of the institution to begin the process of appointment of a new provost for the institution in line with extant laws.
