Police Bullet Made Me Impotent, Cripple – Man Tells EndSARS Panel

One Mr Olasunkanmi Fagbemi has told the Ogun State Judicial Panel on Police Brutality how a bullet allegedly fired by the police rendered him impotent and crippled him.

Speaking before the panel in Isabo, Abeokuta, Fagbemi said he was about to get married when the incident happened.

According to him, the bullet said to be fired by a yet-to-be identified police officer, went in through his neck and pierced his spinal cord, thereby rendering him totally dependent.

‘I was about to get married when the incident happened. I could not go ahead with the marriage because the doctor said I can’t father a child naturally. They said they can only extract my sperm for artificial insemination and I can’t afford it. As of now, I don’t have any hope of having a child because I am impotent,’ he said

Fagbemi said he spent more than ₦3million Naira to undergo a surgery in India, after spending over a million Naira on at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he was taken to on the day of the incident.

However, he is still confined to his wheelchair because he had stopped going for physiotherapy, which he said costs a lot of money.

In his words, the man explained to the panel that the incident happened at Alapako area of Ogun State on August 19, 2010.

He disclosed that a commercial bus had refused to stop as ordered by the police on the road, causing an officer to fire a shot. The shot missed the target and he was hit.

Dare Ayano, who aided Fagbemi into the venue of the sitting, stated that letters were written to the police in order to identify the officers involved in the incident, but there was no response.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the man has demanded ₦10 million compensation for justice to be served on him.

The panel has since adjourned the matter till April 1, 2021, with a letter sent to the state police command to appear before it.
