Ahead of next year’s general elections, the Labour Party on Friday inaugurated an 11-man committee to steer its Diaspora activities and ensure inclusiveness of members of the party outside the country.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja, the National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Julius Abure pointed out that the committee was born out of the need to address the desire of Nigerians living abroad to be included in the party’s campaign train.
The committee is also saddled with the responsibility of fund-raising for the party among other things.

‘The party has enjoyed overwhelming support from Nigerians and from Nigerians across the world,’ Abure said. ‘And even non-Nigerians alike. This has resulted into a situation where there is clamour for the party to establish chapters across the world.
‘There has also been the clamour of people who want to contribute to the growth and development of the party.
‘Arising from these calls are the necessity to have these activities coordinated.
‘The party therefore has decided to put up a committee of 11 distinguished Nigerians to drive this process. And it is that committee we are inaugurating today.’
Meanwhile, Abure has also called on Nigerians to remain resolute in their quest for good governance and not be carried away with insinuations that the party has no structure to win the 2023 presidential election, pointing out that the suffering Nigerians are the party’s structures.
In another report, the leadership of the party has issued a statement dismissing any involvement with the activities of Fabian Ihekweme, the Imo State Coordinator for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the party’s national publicity secretary Arabambi Abayomi accused the controversial state chairman of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation of indulging in ‘clandestine conspiracy and fraudulent activities’.
Meanwhile, Ihekweme has already refuted the accusation, which he claimed was leveled by some party officials.
