Bauchi Govt Declares Work Free Day For CVR Mobilisation

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has openly declared Monday as a work free day which is part of the mobilisation intiatives for residents of Bauchi state to get to enroll in the ongoing continuous voter registration ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Mr Mukhtar Gidado, who is the Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity had in a statement on Friday explained that the work free day was to enable the state public and civil servants to go to their respective localities to in order to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to be able to exercise their right of franchise.

Governor Mohammed has also expressed concern over the low turn-out of eligible Voters.

”By this, all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, and other top government functionaries are directed to proceed to their respective electoral wards to mobilise eligible registrants to come out en-mass and register.

It has been previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to extend the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise by 60 days. INEC’s initial deadline for the registration was June 30.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday stopped INEC from ending the exercise.

Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of Court 10 granted an order of interim injunction following the hearing of an argument on motion exparte by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously reported that fresh registration in the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) has hit 10. 2 million.

INEC said this in its quarter four, week seven, released in Abuja, saying that 6.5 registrants have so far completed their registration.

The commission said that out of the people that completed their registration, 2,928,447 did it online, while 3,615,798 did physical registration.

A gender breakdown of the registration revealed that 3,253,441 of the persons were males, while 3,290,804 were females, of which 53,663 were persons with disabilities, while 4,550,847 were youths.

A total of 18,912,511 applications including those for voter transfer, requests for replacement of Permanent Voter Cards, update of voter information record, were received by INEC.
