Africa Daily New, New York had earlier reported that operatives of the EFCC stormed the venue of the ongoing PDP’s presidential primary elections in Abuja following widespread reports of alleged vote buying and bribing of delegates at the event.
Meanwhile, earlier on Saturday, it was another episode of surprise strategies on Saturday as another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has quit the race for the prime seat.
Hayatu-deen withdrew from the race on the eve of the decision by 811 delegates of the party to choose its flag bearer among the remaining 13 aspirants for the 2023 election.
The former Managing Director of FSB International Bank, announced his withdrawal in a letter sent to Dr Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the PDP.
He said he withdrew because the delegate election has been ‘obscenely monetised’.
Following his withdrawal, the aspirants he left in the race were former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom
Others are two former senate presidents, Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim; former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; and a publisher, Dele Momodu and others.
Atiku eventually won the keenly contested election.
