The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that he is committed to restoring peace to Nigeria before he leaves office.

Buhari stressed that his administration would not relent until peace was restored in the country.

He gave the assurance while speaking at the 58th anniversary of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) in Kano on Monday.

According to Buhari: ‘The huge investment in the Nigeria Air Force has helped to turn the tide against terrorist and non-state actors in our nation.

‘In furtherance of our drive to continue to do more to support the airforce. Rest assured that our government is willing to do even more to ensure the provision of requisite support and the encouragement to overcome various security challenges.

‘This government will not rest until peace and stability are fully restored in the nation. I, therefore, urge you all to remain steadfast, committed and resolute and forge ahead to achieve a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.’

Meanwhile, President Buhari has announced the appointment of Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation following the suspension of the former AGF for corruption.

Nwabuoku is to take over the position pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris.

Buhari’s former aide, Bashir Ahmed confirmed the development on Sunday in a message on social media.

Africa Daily News, New York had earlier reported that Idris was last week suspended by the Minister of Finance, budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

Recall that his suspension came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested him for allegedly diverting funds and laundering N80billion.
