Blasphemy Tambuwal Announces Lifting Of Curfew In Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state following riots by youths following last weeks murder of a Christain girl by name, Deborah Samuel for alleged blasphemy. 

In a statement which was issued on Monday by the state commissioner of information, Isah Galadanci, Tambuwal ordered the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew following a security report.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that some youths had taken to the streets on Saturday to protest against the arrest of the suspected killers of Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education accused blasphemy.

The police command in Sokoto announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with Deborah’s murder.

The commissioner added that the development will enable people to carry out their “legitimate businesses”.

The statement reads, ‘Sequel to the briefing by the Security Heads in the State, the State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR Mutawallen Sokoto has ordered the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew in force in Sokoto metropolis.

‘The revised curfew will now be from dusk to dawn in Sokoto township. This is with a view to afford people the window to pursue their legitimate businesses and other means of livelihood.’

However, the state government advised residents to ‘maintain peace in this regard, as it will not condone any breach of law and order in the state’.

Meanwhile, aMagistrate Court sitting in Sokoto State on Monday ordered the remand of two suspects arrested over the murder of a 200-level student.

Africa Today News, New York had earlier reported that the Police arraigned the two suspects, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi, who are also students of the college, yesterday.

The Police First Information Report revealed that both suspects were arraigned as a result of the mob action, which led to Deborah’s lynching.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them following their arraignment.
