Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has asserted that that the elite are the problem of Nigeria while also noting that the country can do much better if the elites can change most of their habits.

He called on citizens to vote the right people who have proven  capacity into leadership positions to fix the country’s numerous challenges.

Amaechi gave the counsel on on Wednesday at the 2022 World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The former Rivers Governor also called on Nigerians to always hold politicians accountable regardless of the positions they occupy.

‘The problem of the country is not the poor man in Akwa Ibom or Rivers, in the South East or in the North. It is you and I, the elite,’ he said.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that Amaechi also dropped his take on the controversial issue of restructuring.

‘Why you are hearing restructuring, it is because the elites’ consensus on sharing (the resources) is disappearing.

‘It is because there is nothing to share again, we are broke. The problem facing this country is caused by the elites, including you’, he said.

Amaechi also called on the media to help resolve the nation’s problems through objective, balanced and fair reportage.

Meanwhile, Amaechi who is also running for the office of the President had last week visited Lagos State for consultation where he was informed by the State Governor that the State would not support his Presidential dreams.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the Minister of Transportation is presently on a tour of States in the South West over his bid to run for the office of the President on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor pointed out that it is true that Amaechi is well qualified to lead Nigeria, the State’s endorsement is for Tinubu and that was non-negotiable.
