The Governor of Ekiti State and 2023 Presidential hopeful, Kayode Fayemi has disclosed that the level of tax evasion in Nigeria is scandalous vowing to reverse it if he becomes President next year.

The governor made this vow when he made an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today which was monitored by AfricaDaily News, New York on Wednesday.

Those comments were coming barely hours after he officially declared his intentions to run for President to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Fayemi lamented that ‘rich hardly pay taxes’ and so if he is elected, he will do everything legally possible to ensure that the rich pay more taxes.

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, also shares the same sentiments.

Addressing members of the press on Wednesday in Abuja, after he declared his intention to run for the seat of the President, Oshiomhole said he will appropriately tax the rich to provide amenities for the poor.

‘It is in the interest of the rich to pay that tax so they can enjoy their wealth,’ he said saying that he will purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms in the next few hours.

Governor Fayemi had earlier on Wednesday declared his intention to run for the office of Nigeria president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayemi made the declaration at the Hilton Hotel, Abuja in the company of his wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi, APC Governorship aspirant, Biodun Oyebanji, members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, and traditional rulers.

‘After a careful consideration of where we are as a nation, I believe that my entry into the race will offer Nigerians the opportunity to examine competing visions for national rebirth,’ Fayemi submitted.

‘I am a full-blooded child of Nigeria…I can boldly and confidently say, let us as one people dig deep into our history & hearts to revive hope and do the work of faith that will get us to the greater good.’

Africa Daily News, New York reports that Fayemi has now joined the long list of aspirants aiming to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the presidential ticket of the APC.
