A former presidential media aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, has lambasted the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, for what he described as lies against the former president.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the minister had in a recent television interview claimed that the money left behind by Goodluck Jonathan when he left office in 2015, could not have sustained Nigeria for three weeks. emphasising that the Jonathan administration left almost an empty treasury for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari who assumed office in 2015.

Reacting to Amaechi the claim via his Instagram page on Monday, Omokri described Amaechi as a ‘liar’.

He went further to debunk his claims while asking Nigerians to ignore him.

‘This is exactly what Jonathan left behind on May 29, 2015, that Amaechi said could not sustain Nigeria for three weeks: foreign reserve of $28.6bn; $2.2bn in the Excess Crude Account; $5.6bn Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited dividends; Over $1bn investments via the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

‘Rotimi Amaechi is just a liar, who thinks he can get APC’s vice-presidential slot by attacking former President Jonathan. 2023 is near. The whole of Nigeria will soon see what Buhari will leave behind, apart from N40 trillion debt,’ he said.

Many Nigerians have been speculating that the former governor of Rivers State might be contesting for the Presidency in 2023. Some say he is favoured by President Muhammadu Buhari to take over from him.

Meanwhile, Omokri had recentlygiven reasons why he believes former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar should be Nigeria’s next president in 2023.

Omokri insisted that only Atiku can unite both the Southern and Northern parts of Nigeria together at the moment.

He, however, pointed out that Nigeria is experiencing a very precarious time in its national life owing to the maladministration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a tweet, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan endorsed Atiku for president in 2023.

Omokri also called on all his followers to support Atiku’s presidential candidacy.
