An Igbo socio-cultural group, Nzuko Ndigbo, have maintained that Ndigbo are in prison as long as the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, remains in detention.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the IPOB leader is currently being detained in the facility of the Department of State Service (DSS) in Abuja, on the orders of Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako-led federal high court in Abuja, following treasonable felony charges levelled against the Kanu by the Federal Government.

Nzuko Ndigbo, in a statement made through its Publicity Secretary, Edomobi Promise on Sunday, declared that Nnamdi Kanu is not a terrorist but was only radicalised by the killing of his harmless followers by Nigeria security operatives.

The Igbo group renewed its call for the immediate and unconditional release of the pro-Biafra leader as demanded by other Igbo and non-Igbo groups.

It also issued a serious warning against any harm befalling Kanu, pointing out that if such happens, the consequences may be devastating.

The Nzuko Ndigbo further emphasised that Ndigbo will only feel welcomed in Nigeria if accords them what is due to them in 2023 on equity grounds which according to them was the 2023 Presidency.

It further pointed that Nigeria actually does owes Ndigbo a political debt that must be paid in 2023 which might see the Igbos leave in 2023 if Nigeria decides to deny them again.

According to the group, ‘we cannot be slaves and second class citizens in Nigeria.’

To this end, the socio-cultural group also urged all the political parties in Nigeria to zone their 2023 presidency to Igbo land as that should be the standard practice to ensure that Igbos get a chance to produce the next President of Nigeria.

Africa Daily News, New York had earlier that Kanu’s next date for his court appearance is January 18th, 2022.
