Gunmen Attack Police Headquarters In Abia, Kill Inspector

Gunmen in their numbers in the early hours of today invaded the headquarters of Abia State Police Command in Umuahia the state capital, killing an Inspector of police in the process.

According to a reliable eyewitness who chose anonymity, the Inspector was one of the policemen on guard duty on the road in front of the headquarters.

The gunmen were said to have unsuccessfully attempted to overrun the station, struck around 1am on Monday but were repelled by the superior firepower of the policemen on duty.

The PPRO of Abia State Police Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna said he was yet to be briefed on the development.

Journalists were denied access to the facility as the place was cordoned off.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that this is coming less than two weeks after Gunmen invaded the  Police Divisional headquarters, Arondizuogu in Ideato Local Government Area of Imo state and set it ablaze.

The invaders reportedly shot a policeman dead and also injured the Divisional Police Officer.

The attack by unknown gunmen have taken alarming proportions in the last few days in the South East which police formations and Military posts the biggest targets
