Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd) as an Ambassador Nigeria to Benin Republic.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the immediate Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (rtd) was also deployed to the Republic of Cameroon as Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, made this known on Tuesday while presenting a letter of credence to newly appointed ex-service chiefs.

This was contained in a statement by Mr. Kimiebi Ebienfa, information officer of the ministry of foreign affairs.

The statement reads, ‘The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama today 22 June 2021, presented Letters of Credence to the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to the Republic of Cameroon, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Retired) and the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, Lt.Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Retired).’

Recall that President Buhari, upon the retirement of the service chiefs, appointed them as non-career ambassador a move which was heavily condemned and criticised by many Nigerians.
