Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called on the African Union (AU) to begin talks about a process that would lead to free and fair elections in the country.

The president said all stakeholders would participate in the talks for the future of the country’s democracy.

The Somali president is visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, who is the AU chairperson.

Mr. Farmajo last week approved an extension of his term in office by two years as voted by parliament. The AU condemned the extension.

Elections in Somalia have been delayed because of disagreements among regional and federal governments.
