The gruesome killing and setting ablaze of a medical doctor in Gusau, Dr. Enoch Okpara has taken another twist as the Igbo community in the state has demanded immediate arrest of perpetrators of the dastard act.

Our correspondent gathered that the Igbo community in the state has been mounting pressures on the security agencies in the state to fish out the evildoers from their hiding places, saying that there seems to be no adequate security of lives and property in the state.

According to chief Egbuna Obijiaku, the Eze Ndi Igbo in Zamfara State who reacted swiftly said that the action was condemnable, pointing out that the merciless killing was an indication that nobody is actually safe in the Sharia state.

” We are all in trouble as we are living in the era of perpetual fears since nobody can exactly say what would happen next, ” he lamented.

Chief Obijiaku explained that merciless killings have resurfaced in the Shari’a state in various fashions and senses, urging the security agencies to as a matter of urgency put up well coordinated security network to stop all these unholy activities ravaging the entire state.

” All these man’s inhumanity against man must be addressed as the citizens may be forced to react negatively. We are, therefore, calling on the security agencies in the state to fish out the killers of the easy going gentleman doctor and bring them to book.

Speaking further, the Eze Ndi Igbo pleaded with the Igbos in the state to remain law-abiding, saying that nobody is above the government and the security agencies unless they do not want to act.

” Nobody can run away from reality and the reality is that merciless killings still persist in the state. We challenge the security operatives to demonstrate their professionalism ”

Our correspondent can authoritatively state that within a week, a housewife, Hauwa’u Illiyasu was raped, murdered and mutilated, again a gynecologist, Dr. Enoch Okpara was killed and set ablaze in the same week.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu said that all hands were on deck to apprehend the perpetrators and prosecute them, saying that the police was on top of the issue.

He urged the general public not to take the laws into their own hands, assuring that no stone would be left unturned.

In his own reaction, the chairman Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Gusau branch, Dr. Illiyasu Ahmed described the incident as very unfortunate and a huge blow to the medical profession in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

He lamented that the gruesome act was generating fears and tension to the medical profession in the Shari’a state, given the way and manner Dr Enoch Okpara was wasted and set ablaze by unknown assailants in his residence.
