China responded Monday to the death of its ambassador to Israel, Du Wei, by despatching some delegates to Tel Aviv.

The 57 year-old envoy was found dead in his home on Sunday.

Israeli police did not suspect any foul play.

According to reports, Du Wei appeared to have died of a cardiac arrest.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat told DPA: “They are sending a delegation to help with the arrangements of sending the body back to China’’.

He debunked a report in the Israeli Haaretz daily that the delegation would examine the circumstances of the ambassador’s death.

Haiat said Beijing has no jurisdiction to investigate in Israel.

Embassy staff found Du Wei, who arrived Israel in February, dead in bed in his home in Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv.

The Chinese embassy in Tel Aviv issued a statement.

It said it was “ devastated by this tragic loss and would like to offer the most sincere sympathies to his family.’’
