Willie Obiano Budgets ₦137bn For 2020 Fiscal Year

The Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, on Thursday laid a budget of ₦137.1bn before the Anambra State House of Assembly for the 2020 fiscal year.

The budget had ₦57.69bn as recurrent expenditure and N78.3bn as capital expenditure, representing 43 and 57 per cent of the budget respectively.

Tagged budget for “Accelerating Infrastructural Development and Youth Entrepreneurship”, the governor said it would take into consideration, the state’s revenue and expenditure trend.

Obiano said, “This is expected to drive the 2020 budget theme of Accelerating Infrastructural Development and Youth Entrepreneurship.

“We hope that the budget allocation will facilitate the intended improvement in infrastructure in Anambra State.

“This budget plans to sustain our past performance and ensure that Anambra State continues to maintain its status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments.”

Road construction and rehabilitation, according to the budget would gulp ₦22.2bn, out of which ₦15.15bn would be spent on the
construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones.

Education got the second-highest allocation in the budget of ₦8.3bn, followed by the Anambra International Airport which was allocated ₦6bn in the budget.

Reacting to the budget, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, commended the governor for the early presentation of the budget while giving assurances that they (Assembly) would ensure the quick passage of the budget.
