The scheduled proceedings in the assault case against afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti were disrupted on Monday as Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatubosun of the Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, was not present.
The court session, which was supposed to hear the case involving Seun Kuti, was unable to proceed as Ms Adeola Olatubosun, the Chief Magistrate, was not present despite the presence of the singer, his counsel, and the prosecution team.
The court has decided to resume the proceedings in the case concerning Seun Kuti on September 27.
The adjournment of the case until July 3 was made to accommodate the advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mr Kuti was brought before the court on May 16 by the police, who accused him of assaulting a police officer.

The alleged offence took place on May 13 on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, according to the charges against Mr Kuti.
The charges filed against Mr Kuti by the police include allegations of slapping an inspector after engaging in dangerous driving on the bridge and deliberately obstructing a moving police vehicle.
Ms Olatubosun ruled for the remand of Mr Kuti for 48 hours following the court proceedings.
However, she decided to grant the singer bail with a condition of N1 million and two sureties who must also provide the same amount at the expiration of the 48-hour remand. On May 18, the chief magistrate extended Mr Kuti’s remand for an extra four days.
Upon considering the police’s application, Ms Olatubosun decided to extend Mr Kuti’s remand until May 22.
This adjournment has created an extended period of uncertainty for both Seun Kuti and the prosecution team.
According to police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, Seun Kuti voluntarily surrendered himself at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters. He was accompanied by a lawyer and a family representative during the process at the genesis of this case.
Seun Kuti, following in the footsteps of his father Fela Kuti, has carved a unique niche for himself in the music world and has made wave since.
Seun Kuti’s musical journey began at a remarkably young age when he joined his father’s band, Egypt 80, at the tender age of nine. At the age of 14, following the passing of his father, he assumed leadership of the band, carrying on Fela Kuti’s powerful musical legacy.
Seun Kuti and his band, Egypt 80, achieved a notable milestone in 2019 when they received a Grammy nomination in the global music category for their album ‘Black Times.’
