IGP Rewards DPO For Rejecting $200,000 Bribe In Kano

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba on Tuesday presented a certificate of Award to Nassarawa, Divisional Police Officer, SP Daniel Itse Amah for rejecting the sum of Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (USD 200,000) offered him as a bribe in a case of alleged armed robbery.

In a letter containing the commendation, SP Daniel was extolled for exhibiting sound professionalism in his actions which lead to the arrest of Ali Zaki, a Kano-based legal practitioner, and some Police officers.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that investigations by Operatives led by SP Daniel led to the arrest of the suspected armed robbery syndicate in Kano.

Consequently, the case was transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on the directive of IGP for discreet investigation.

When contacted, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and said, ‘The lawyer and other suspects involved in the case have a case to answer and we are still on with the matter.’

In a related development, Notorious Taraba-based kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume, was on Monday sentenced to seven years without an option of fine by Justice Binta Nyako after she found him guilty.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the trial which began in 2019 spanned a period of three years.

Wadume was found guilty of charges on counts two and 10 of the 13 counts brought against him and six others by the Attorney General of the Federation.

The presiding judge delivered the judgment on July 22 but obtained by newsmen on Sunday.

Wadume was convicted on counts two and 10 bordering on escaping from lawful custody and unlawfully dealing in prohibited firearms.

Other defendants in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/30/2020 are: Aliyu Dadje (a police inspector), Auwalu Bala (aka omo razor), Uba Bala (aka Uba Delu), Bashir Wazlri (aka baba runs), Zubairu Abdullahi (aka Basho) and Rayyanu Abdul.
