The National Population Commission (NPC) has revealed that it successfully foiled an attempt to hack its recruitment portal for the 2023 census.

NPC Commissioner for Anambra, Chidi Ezeoke, made this known while speaking at a news conference in Awka on Tuesday.

Ezeoke revealed that the NPC had established a digitalised online geo-fenced portal to recruit personnel from selected communities across Nigeria.

The official also went on to assure Nigerians that the commission was committed to correcting anomalies to ensure an accurate and reliable census next year.

“If hackers were not able to succeed in this, we want to ensure and assure that it will be difficult for them to hack during the 2023 census.

‘I’m almost certain that the attempt, to a large extent, was foiled.

‘When you are trying out something new, people will try to bypass your efforts’, he said.

Joachim Ulasi, NPC State Director refuted alleged substitution of recruited officers, saying the ones dropped were those absent during the 12-day training.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that last week, the NPC had revealed that the federal government of Nigeria has concluded plans to employ no fewer than one million Nigerians for the conduct of the 2023 National Census.

The commissioner representing Ekiti at the NPC, Mr Deji Ajayi, made this revelation while speaking in Ado Ekiti, on Monday at a press conference heralding the trial census to be conducted in Ekiti in preparatory to the next year’s main census exercise.

He assured Nigerians that reliable technological innovation had been advanced by the NPC for the conduct of the exercise to prevent politicians and interested elites from hijacking or manipulating the process.

While reeling out the significance of census to nation-building, Ajayi said population statistics would be used by private organisations to plan for the recruitment of young Nigerians by knowing the number of the active population.
