The governor who described the ugly incident as sad and unfortunate, said it is the will of God.

‘We pray to Allah (SWT) to forgive their shortcomings and to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss,’ Buni prayed.

He went on to directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure treatment of those who sustained injuries and to provide the victims with emergency relief materials to cushion their hardship.

It could be recalled that five people were confirmed dead and many injured on Monday following a heavy downpour and thunderstorm in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

In a related development, Governor Buni, yesterday appealed to the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University chapter to consider calling off its ongoing solidarity strike which was embarked upon by its national body two months ago.

The governor, made this appeal when he hosted members of the union as well as the university management in a meeting on Saturday.

Governor Buni who was represented by the Secretary to State Government, Baba Malam Wali, told the university staff that the meeting was convened to appeal to the union to review its earlier decision of joining the ongoing nationwide strike embarked upon by their national body as a mark of solidarity.

Buni further added that this should be in consideration of outcries by parents and students of YSU and bearing in mind that there are virtually no outstanding issues between the state government, the management of YSU and the union that could warrant such action.
