The 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Katsina, has called on residents to steer clear from the 35 Battalion Range, located in Natsinta village, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State as it prepares to conduct military drills.

The troops of 3 Brigade revealed that it would be conducting a live ammunition shooting exercise in the area, on Friday, March 18, 2022.

The announcement was contained in a press statement sighted by Africa Daily News, New York which was signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, of the 17 Brigade, Lieutenant Sinivie Tamuno.

According to Tamuno; ‘The exercise is part of the annual routine training activities of the Nigerian Army, usually conducted across Formations and Units to ensure proficiency and productivity amongst personnel’.

He also pointed out that ‘the formation has put in place adequate precautionary measures to ensure a hitch free exercise.’

He advised residents of the area, as well as farmers and herders to kindly stay off the range area for the period of the exercise.

Consequently, he urged the general public to avoid panicking on sighting troop’s movements and hearing the sound of gunfire at the range area during the exercise period.

In a related development, the Nigerian Army has announced the deployment of 62 soldiers and officers to Mali on a peacekeeping mission.

The Army Deputy Chief of Training, Brigadier General Hassan Dada made this announcement last Friday at the passing out parade of the troops from the General Martin Luther Agwai Peacekeeping Centre in Jaji,  Kaduna state.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the passing out ceremony comes ahead of their departure to Bamako, the capital of Mali, as they are expected to depart Nigeria immediately after their induction.

General Dada, however, warned the troops that the Nigerian Army will not tolerate any act of cowardice or professional misconduct from them during the duration of their operation in the West African country.
