A petrol-laden tanker on Sunday evening fell at the Enugada Roundabout, along Lafenwa, Abeokuta of Ogun State, spilling its content and spreading possible fear.

Residents of the area who were gripped with fear of possible fire outbreak, made a distress call to the operational firefighters of the Ogun State Fire Services.

The firefighters, who raced to the scene, successfully averted a fire incident as they cordoned off the area to prevent the highly flammable content from exploding during the rescue operation.

The Mack truck with commercial registration number plate, T-2176 LA, was reportedly laden with 40,000 litres of petroleum motor spirit when it fell.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Fire Services, Kuti Bukunola, confirmed the incident, saying, “The tanker, which accidentally capsised at the roundabout was reportedly said to be coming from Lafenwa for a U-turn at the Enugada roundabout before it capsized during the process.”

Bukunola explained that, ‘A distress call was then put through to the Ijemo Fire Station of Ogun State Fire Service at about 0600 hours (6:00 AM), and our men led by FO-I Bada responded swiftly to the scene.

‘The incident had hindered commercial and vehicular movement within the area for many hours.

‘However, normalcy has returned to the axis at the time of filing this report.’

According to reports, the efforts of the fire fighters prevented what would have been a monumental disaster.
