The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reacted to the Mali situation.
President Ibrahim Keita and his government resigned after soldiers arrested him.
The mutineers have set up a body to work out modalities for elections.
They announced the closure of all air and land borders, and a 9 p.m.-5 a.m. curfew.
On Wednesday, the Red Cross expressed concern over the fate of millions of citizens.
Klaus Spreyermann, the head of delegation, said the military coup comes on top of years of conflict and violence in the wider Sahel region that has trapped people.

“Violence has tragically escalated during the COVID-19 pandemic, driving death, injury and displacement, all while more than 18% of health care facilities nationwide, 90% of them in the north, have been destroyed by war.
“People in northern and central Mali have lived for years in a vicious cycle of conflict and climate shocks that have driven them from their homes and destroyed their livelihoods. Their needs must not be forgotten.”
Spreyermann added that it remains the responsibility of authorities to assist them, no matter the changes of leadership in Bamako.
