NDA Inaugurates First Female Professor

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has inaugurated its first female Professor, she is Francisca Onyenelum Ugwueleka, a renowned professor of computer sciences and Dean, Faculty of Military Science and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Academy.

Presenting 13th Professorial Inaugural Lecture titled “Redefining the Future Through Big Data and Artificial Intelligence” at the Joseph Garba Hall, Ribadu Campus, Ugwueleka evaluated the opportunities artificial intelligence and big data offer towards a sustainable future. This is particularly in the areas of environment, diplomacy, transportation, training and healthcare.

Ugwueleka’s lecture also dwelt on the symbiosis between these two fields, their impact on finance, agriculture, security, cyber security, communication and defence, and how Nigeria could benefit from expanding the scope of its citizens in the acquisition of such knowledge.

Commandant NDA, Major General Jamil Sarham, while speaking at the event, affirmed the Academy’s resolve towards facilitating many of such lectures during the current academic session. He disclosed that “NDA is committed to providing ,among other things, a rigorous intellectual standard for it’s cadets and post graduate students”.

The Special Guest of Honour, Air Vice Marshall Christopher Okoye, a former Deputy Commandant of the NDA, reinforced the importance of ICT, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He noted that any society that chooses to ignore these important tools in the life of its citizens and the administration of society would only be doing so at its own peril.

Professor Ugwueleka who was born in 1974 at Enugu has garnered a vast teaching experience, having lectured at Federal University Wukari, Madonna University, University of Abuja and Federal University of Technology, Minna, among other institutions.
