A Staten Island man brutally beaten for his iPhone on the Lower East Side last month has died from his injuries — and now cops are hunting for the mugger who killed him, police said Friday.
Giovanni DeStafano, 27, was walking along E. 5th St. near Avenue B, outside the Lower East Side Houses, about 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 20 when someone jumped him from behind, cops said.
The man repeatedly struck DeStafano in the head before running off with the victim’s iPhone 7, authorities said.
DeStafano suffered massive head injuries during the assault and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
