Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has been announced as the coach of Austria’s national team, the federation revealed on Friday, however, he is expected to continue in a consultancy role at the Old Trafford side.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that Rangnick joined United as interim manager last November and is not expected to move into an advisory position after Ajax coach Erik ten Hag comes in as the new permanent manager.

According to a statement made public by United, the 63-year-old German tactician  ‘will combine the job with his consultancy role at Old Trafford as planned’.

On their part, the Austrian federation stated that Rangnick had been offered a two-year deal that will be extended to four years if he manages to secure qualification for the 2024 European championship.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, the Austrian federation president Gerhard Milletich said; ‘We are very pleased that in Ralf Rangnick we have been able to attract an outstanding expert in international football’.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s already slim hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League and securing a Champions League was dealt another blow following a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Thursday.

Africa Daily News, New York recall that Ralf Rangnick came in as interim boss at the end of November 2021 even though it had appeared as though Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino was more favoured by the Club hierarchy at the start of the search, but as the weeks and months progressed, Ajax’s Ten Hag became a more popular option amongst the English club’s board members as well as teeming supporters.

Finally, on April 21, the speculations ended as Manchester United confirmed that Ten Hag has been appointed as their new coach and was expected to take over the reigns at the end of the season.

Africa Daily News, New York can confirm that he actulally signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford with the option to extend it for a further year.
