In a Tuesday statement to the United Nations Security Council, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that Russian troops had committed the most terrible war crimes since World War Two as they invaded Ukraine.

Zelenskiy screened a video of burned, bloodied and mutilated bodies, including those of children, in the Ukrainian towns of Irpin, Dymerka, Mariupol, and Bucha, where Ukrainian forces are alleged to have killed hundreds of civilians.

ambassador for Russia informed the Security Council that Russian troops do not target civilians, denying the allegations of abuse.

He stressed that no violence took place in Bucha while it was under Russian control.

Zeleniskiy questioned the effectiveness of the United States.

With Russia exercising its veto power as well as the veto power of the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and China, the Security Council hasn’t been able to do much effective work since the invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February.

Zelenskiy called for a reform of the global organization in a video address from the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

Furthermore, Zelenskiy said regretfully that, “Russia wants to turn Ukraine into silent slaves”.

Russia’s ally China, which abstained from the majority of U.N. votes since the war began, expressed deep concern about the images of civilian deaths in Bucha, urging a thorough investigation.

Accordingly, India, that is extremely dependent on Russian military equipment and has not taken part in UN conflict resolution,Β also condemned the killings in Bucha and requested that a thorough investigation be conducted.

In addition to more than 121 children, U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths reported that at least 1,430 civilians had died in the conflict. Griffiths acknowledged that the death toll is likely to be underestimated. The U.N. official said, “We know this is likely a serious underestimate”.
