Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has demanded justice for Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old Secondary School student, who was allegedly assaulted at Dowen College Lagos State.
Africa Daily News, New York gathered that Sylvester died from internal injuries he sustained after an assault by fellow students a few weeks ago.
However, the school Principal, Mrs. Adebisi Layiwola, in a statement denied any form of bullyingΒ or attack on the student.
The denial had on Friday sparked outrage on social media as Nigerians demanded that the perpetrators be arrested.
This led the Lagos State government to shut down the school and ordered an investigation into the incident.
Reacting on Twitter, Atiku urged the authorities to bring the culprits to book.
He wrote, ‘We shall be failing in our duties as parents/guardians, administrators, security agencies and government if we do not get to the bottom of the case of late Sylvester Oromoni.
‘It is beholden upon us to enthrone a safe environment in our schools.#Justiceforsylvester’
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Dowen College, located in the Lekki area of the state, indefinitely.
