Handcuffs come in different varieties and make, they have the Smith and Wesson handcuffs, the safari handcuffs, and so on.

And the majority of these handcuffs have the same thing in common: THEIR KEY.

They all use the same type of double teethed key as an opening mechanism. You can even use a set of keys that don’t even belong to that particular make of handcuffs.

Now, to business.

How to get out of a pair of handcuffs. This method doesn’t require you to break your thumb or using engine or baby oil to facilitate removal. This method is fool-proof from both ends, and it requires the use of one item only: A BOBBY PIN OR A HAIR CLIP.

Prepare the bobby pin by unbending the pin so its two halves form a right angle. Using pliers or the keyhole of the cuffs themselves, bend the tip of the straight portion of the bobby pin so that it ends with what looks like a small capital “L.”

Unlike the deadbolt on doors, the lock on handcuffs isn’t particularly complicated.

To pop it open, slip the angled end of the bobby pin into the ratchet mechanism part of the keyhole. Jam it as deep as it can go.

While pressing down, wriggle your hands so it creates some space in the handcuff mechanism, this should help insert the pin deeper.

When it is deep enough, turn your hands in opposite directions t0 each other, and the handcuffs, on one hand, would slip right off.

Repeat this same process for the other hand.
