WHO Releases Latest Update As Algeria Overtakes Morocco

The World Health Organization, WHO, regional office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, says the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Africa has risen to over 77,000 in the past 24 hours.

The UN health agency gave the update on its official Twitter account on Saturday.

According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed 2,600 people in the continent, while 29,000 people have recovered from the virus.

“Over 77,000 confirmed #COVID19 cases on the African continent – with more than 29,000 recoveries & 2,600 deaths,” It said.

The WHO African Region COVID-19 dashboard showed that Algeria now has more coronavirus cases than Morocco, while South Africa and Egypt remain the top two countries with the highest reported COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that another 288 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing to 5,445 the number of confirmed cases in the country as of Friday night.
