Former captain John Obi Mikel parted ways with Turkish club, Trabzonspor, on Tuesday.
Goal.com reported that the Turkish Super Lig club has announced the departure of Mikel “by mutual consent” and that the midfielder also gave up his remaining wages.
The reason for his departure is linked to Mikel’s recent action of criticizing the Turkish Football authorities for not suspending the Super Lig season despite the coronavirus epidemic across Europen and refusing to play in their recent matches.
Mikel joined the Black Sea Storm club as a free agent on a two-year deal last summer from Championship outfit, Middlesbrough.
He featured for the Trabzonspor 19 times this season to help hem to the summit of the Super Lig.
