Reports reaching the desk of Africa Daily News, New York has it that suspected herders have allegedly killed no fewer than three people in Ngban community in the Guma Local Government Area, the hometown of the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that over the last three weeks, no fewer than 13 people were killed at Tse Numgbera, Umella, Yogbo, and Ukohol communities all in Guma LGA.

The latest attack, according to residents, took place around 4 pm on Monday, when suspected herders invaded the Ngbea area under Nyiev council ward of the Guma LGA.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Iorhemen, said, ‘They were Fulani herders; they came in their numbers and attacked our village around 4pm on Sunday. Three people were killed.’

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack.

She said, ‘Three persons were killed in an attack at Guma. The corpses have been taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, while investigation is ongoing.’

Recall that Ortom had recently alleged that a good number of Fulani herdsmen are currently operating in collaboration with terrorist groups to sustain their attacks on the state.

The governor made the allegation last Wednesday while speaking in an interview with Epoch Times TV in Washington, DC, United States of America, USA.

Ortom during the interview anchored by Douglas Burton, pointed out that from the highly placed information available to him, terrorist groups including the Boko Haram, ISIS, ISWAP, and armed Fulani herdsmen are working for one agenda.

The governor emphasized that the terrorists were the same group of people operating under different names and causing havoc across Nigeria.

‘They collaborate by providing arms to them and doing the same thing by killing. Just like the Bible says, a thief cometh not only to steal but to kill and to destroy. So I have seen this collaboration in all these groups, they are doing the same thing,’ he said.

Governor Ortom further stated that the enactment of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the State was one of the ways his administration aimed at providing solution to the lingering crisis between the herdsmen and farmers.
