₦6.3bn Fraud: EFCC Expresses Displeasure, Appeals Jang’s Acquittal

In lieu of the recent ruling by the Plateau High court, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally gotten to react to Friday’s judgement, which had discharged and acquitted Senator Jonah Jang.

Justice Christy L. Dabup of the Plateau State High Court in Jos had finally discharged and acquitted the ex-governor after some months of  perusing through the case. She had also also cleared a former cashier in the Secretary to the State Government’s office, Yusuf Pam.

Both had been facing some 17-count charges which had been bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of some of the Plateau State funds to the tune of ₦6.3billion.

Dabup had revealed that the EFCC failed to provide evidence to prove the allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of ₦4.3billion SUBEB fund and ₦2billion MSMEs fund.

A terse statement by anti-graft commission’s spokesman, Wilso Uwujaren said processes for an appeal have been initiated.

Justice Dalup adjourned the case for verdict in mid-July after the adoption of final written addresses by the prosecution and defence counsels.

In another report, some of the Operatives of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have confirmed the arrest of the Director, Finance, and Account of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Eno Ubi Otu for alleged fraud.

Africa Daily News, New York can confirm that Mr. Otu is currently being grilled with regards to an alleged ₦25billion fraud.

According to reports, it was alleged that the finance director played a role in the diversion of over ₦25billion tax remittances.

The suspect who arrived at the Commission in the early hours of Wednesday, August 24, 2022 was still being interrogated as of press time.

A source who spoke to newsmen on Thursday disclosed that the arrest was part of a larger investigation of the forensic audit report of the NDDC.

Spokesman of the Commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for confirmation.
