Nigeria To Host 2025 AFCON, Pinnick Reveals

The generalissimo of Nigerian football has revealed that the country is presently in a favourable position to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), if it scales all hurdles placed before it which are very surmountable.

Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick disclosed in Lagos also said that  CAF is likely to withdraw the hosting right of the 2025 AFCON from Guinea, and ‘We are putting a bid together for a co-hosting of the tournament with the Benin Republic’.

‘The Minister of Sports has given his endorsement on the bidding . It is high time Nigeria hosted an international tournament because there are many advantages attached to hosting of such competitions.  There are many countries bidding for the competition, we are confident of getting the nod from CAF.  We are working with the ministry of sports to ensure that Nigeria gets the hosting right.’

In a related development, last weekend, tt was another sad night for football lovers in Nigeria as the Copper Queens of Zambia beat the Super Falcons 1-0 to claim the bronze medal in the third-place match of the 2022 WAFCON.

An own goal by Chiamaka Nnadozie in the first half saw Zambia pick a first-ever medal.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the last and only time the Falcons finished fourth was at the 2012 edition.

The gallant girls who put up a spirited display during the semi-final game returned to the county yesterday.
