Funke Akindele, the Deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State has given reason she will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 election saying that she has about 20m followers across social media platforms who will help her record victory.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the APC had said Funke had nothing to offer as the PDP deputy guber candidate and that she would lose in the forthcoming election.

When asked how she plans to defeat the ruling party in Lagos, Funke in an interview with Channels Tv on Thursday said she has over 20m followers on social media who are ready to vote for her.

She boasted that apart from her followers on social media, so many people love her at the grassroots level in Lagos State.

Funke said: “I have the numbers, I have fans and followers and I’m true to myself.

“I have more than 20m fans on social media and also at the grassroots level.

‘I have fans at the grassroots level outside Ikorodu ready to support me and I’m true to myself. What I’m coming in is to change the lives of Lagosians.

‘I’m here to provide solutions in Lagos. I’m in the system, I’m in the pain, we all know where the shoe pinches us.’

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, Jide Adediran had earlier in the week provided his reasons for the choice of Nollywood actress, Funke Akinfele as running mate despite reservations from several people.

Miss Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, confirmed her nomination as the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the PDP on Tuesday.

The actress said she would be putting a hold on her acting career and focus on politics to cause a change to improve the welfare of Lagosians.

Confirming her nomination in an interview, Adediran explained that he picked not just an actress, but a filmmaker and a lawyer, who has been creating jobs for Nigerian youths for many years now.
