The ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has captured up 10,487,972 as of 7 a.m. today.

This analysis was contained in the quarter four, week 12 update which had been released in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had also commenced a fresh voter registration session on June 28, 2021.

INEC had made confirmations that 9,455,198 Nigerians have managed to complete their registration sessions. Of the figure, 3,314,169 registered online while 6,141,029 did physical registration.

In the gender breakdown, 4,682,036 of the registrants are males, 4,773,162 are females, 71,998 are Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). Also, 6,698,446 are youths; 1,894,39 are middle age between 18 and 34 years. A total of 758,300 are the elderly between 50 to 69 years; 104,056 are 70 years and above.

However, the commission has received 25,056,633 applications in general.

This includes voter transfer, requests for replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and update of information, among others.

In another report, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who is the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has openly revealed that the electoral umpire has put out directives which would help the Osun State governorship election to be much better streamlined than the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship poll and the upcoming 2023 general elections too.

The INEC Chief had stated this on Monday while inspecting non-sensitive materials at the INEC office, Osogbo, alongside Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiy Raji, with other officials of the commission. He also urged electoral officers of INEC to be proactive in their duties ahead of the election, especially making appropriate plans for logistics before the exercise.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that this year’s Osun governorship election will be held on July 16.

“Identify the Registration Area Centers (RAC) so that on the election day, you can activate the centres as early as 6 am. We should be waiting for the electorate, not otherwise,” Yakubu said.

“Remember, Ekiti was good, but we want Osun to beat our record in Ekiti and the 2023 General election.

“We rely on you for transportation arrangements, early movement of materials, liaison with the security, moving them in good time…we must do this right. At the RAC centres, ensure adequate electricity so that they can recharge some of the equipment like the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and power banks so that on Election Day, we can have a seamless exercise.”
