Another Edo Catholic Priest, Osia Abducted By Gunmen

There was pandemonium in some parts of Edo State as some unknown gunmen on Sunday morning invaded Ikabigbo community which is situated in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, where they had reportedly abducted a Catholic priest, who was simply identified as Reverend Father Osia.

Africa Daily News, New York also gathered that the hoodlums who had invaded the residence of the priest when he was preparing for Sunday mass had assaulted and also whisked him away.

A source in the community who wished not to be named, told Newsmen that the community vigilante group have commenced bush-combing with a view to rescuing the priest. It was also gathered that the gunmen shot one of the community boys who was searching for the reverend father, and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Bramah Alegeh who is the traditional ruler of the community had made confirmations on the incident, while explaining that efforts were ongoing by military operatives, in collaboration with others, to ensure the release of the cleric.

In another previous report, a  Catholic priest of St Anthony’s Parish, Angware community in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev James Kantoma was on Monday night kidnapped by some unknown gunmen.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that Kantoma who is also the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the Council area, was abducted at his house in the community by the gunmen on Monday morning.

The State Chairman of CAN, Polycarp Lubo, confirmed the abduction of the cleric to reporters in Jos, describing the incident as unfortunate.

Lubo said, “Since the gunmen took the Reverend Father away, we have not heard anything either from him or the abductors up till this afternoon. This is so sad. But we are praying for him that no harm will befall him wherever he is.

A resident of the community, Paul Aware also confirmed the abduction of the Reverend father on Monday.

Joshua said, ‘When the gunmen arrived in the community early hours of the morning, they moved straight to the house of the Reverend Father.

‘Some youths in the area, who were alerted, tried to stop them and even gave them a hot chase into the bush but the gunmen started shooting everywhere and eventually took the Reverend Father away.’
