The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State revealed on Friday that it has decided to postpone its mega rally for Saturday’s governorship election to avoid clashes with rival political parties.

Mega rallies, according to the party, are nothing more than a circus that never results in votes.

Mr. Raphael Adeyanju, the Party’s Publicity Secretary, told reporters that the postponement was due to two political parties holding major rallies on the same day.

According to him, after the party had notified its members of the mega rally, APC also decided to hold its rally which he said was against the guideline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Adeyanju noted PDP members had decided to do a house-to-house campaign before the deadline for electioneering.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had held its mega really on Tuesday with leaders of the party, including 14 governors and the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Ado-Ekiti.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) held its rally on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti and was attended by many chieftains of the party.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Johnson Kokumo, had on Friday assured inhabitants of Ekiti State that there will be adequate security of lives and properties during and after the state governorship election which is slated to hold tomorrow.

Kokumo, who has been saddled with the responsibility of securing the state during the Saturday governorship election, gave this assurance while speaking at a pre-election stakeholder security meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital yesterday which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.

The DIG revealed that no fewer than 17,000 security operatives had been deployed for the poll to ensure that the state was properly secured to avoid any breakdown of law and order.

He emphasised that the deployed operatives were meant to secure the state and not for any form of intimidation of the citizens.
