Bishop Aderogba, Wife, Others Finally Regain Freedom

After two tumultous nights in the captivity of their abductors, the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, Rt. Rev Oluwaseun Aderogba, his wife and their driver who were recently abducted have finally regained their freedom.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed this in a statement.

The statement reads “The Massive deployment of Police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of these entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurized the abductors into freeing the victims,”,

Also stating the victims were released unhurt at about 18:20 pm on Tuesday.

Bishop Aderogba, his wife and the driver were abducted on Sunday night along the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State. The gunmen set N50 million ransom on their heads.

Following the abduction, Osifeso said preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the victims’ vehicle had developed what seemed like a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa in Ogun State to Jebba in Kwara.

Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command was directed to oversee the case.

According to the PPRO, investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

It was not clear if ransom was paid for the release of Aderogba, his wife and driver. It would be recalled that heavy ransom was paid to secure release of the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria His Eminence Uche-Kanu when he was kidnapped recently

In another report, the Police in Ogun, have confirmed the abduction of two persons from the Celestial Church of Christ, Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun, by gunmen. Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in Ota, said that the police were on top of the situation.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the gunmen had on Monday, at 11.00 p.m., entered into the Church and kidnapped two worshippers, Oluwaseun Ajose and Dagunro Ayobami.

Oyeyemi said that the police were already on the trail of the gunmen who abducted the worshippers.

“We are making efforts to ensure that the two abducted persons were rescued alive.

“The Police is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state without any fear or favour,” Oyeyemi said.
