There was mild pandemonium on Sunday when some unidentified gunmen had attacked and killed Mr. Zakari Kigbu, a former Federal Commissioner of National Population Commission (NPC) at his residence in Azuba community near Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

ACP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Command, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.

According to Nansel, the gunmen stormed the victim’s residence at about 12:30 a.m. and shot at him before abducting two of his children- a boy and a girl.’

The Police Command spokesman said that upon receiving the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Adesina Soyemi, immediately deployed Police personnel comprising the Anti Kidnapping unit and Police Mobile Force to the scene.

Nansel said the CP had also visited the scene for on-the-spots assessment and condole with the family.

He said the police would not rest on their oars to ensure that the abducted children were rescued unhurt.

“The police will carry out a comprehensive investigation to unravel, arrest and prosecute those behind the dastardly act,” Nansel said.

The PPRO, therefore, called on members of the public to assist the police with useful information that could lead to the rescue of the abducted victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.

The deceased was a former National President, Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA).

Gunmen suspected to be bandits reportedly stormed Jere community in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killed a husband and kidnapped his pregnant wife as well as three others.

The abducted members of the community are said to be family members of a former Commissioner of Poverty Alleviation in Kaduna State, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Jere.

A resident in the area, Usman Dankabo who spoke to Newsmen said the bandits stormed the community and started picking their victims in a house to house search.

He said he narrowly escaped, as he jumped through the fence, and ran to the bush.

” The bandits entered the community and were picking their victims until they reached the house of a newly wedded couple, with a pregnant wife. They forced the woman but the husband resisted. They shot the husband, and took her away,” he said

He said the bandits picked four relatives and the wife of a former Commissioner, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Jere,

Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not pick his calls to confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.
