The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has expressed strong optimism that the South West aspirants running for President on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, would soon arrive at a consensus candidate for the forthcoming primary election.

Osinbajo, who is also battling for the APC presidential ticket, made this revelation when he spoke during an interactive section with the party’s delegates in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Friday.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the former Governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party, Bola Tinunu, and the Vice President are the major aspirants contending for the sole APC ticket from the region.

Asked how the region could curb the looming division being birthed by the presidential ambition of some stakeholders in the South West, Osinbajo said consultations are ongoing to arrive at a consensus candidate.

He said, ‘I believe strongly in the wisdom of Yoruba elders and leaders, and consultations are always ongoing.

‘I believe that very soon we will resolve whatever differences exist and we will reach an agreement on the way forward.’

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had on Thursday offered explanations on why it sold its nomination and expression of interest forms for the president and other elective positions to everyone who came purchasing without any form of scrutiny.

The APC spokesman, Barr. Felix Morka gave this clarification when he was asked why the party went as far as allowing groups and individuals to buy forms for some aspirants during an interview yesterday.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that some of the aspirants rejected the forms and denounced the buyers, while insisting they have no interest in running for the nation’s topmost political office.
