Moris Godgift, a 21-year-old sales representative met her waterloo on Thursday when he was docked in a Grade I Area Court in Abuja, for allegedly stealing ₦500,000 from her employer.

The police charged Godgift, who lives in Mpape, Abuja, with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that a representative of Real First electric shop Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on May 9.

Ogada alleged that the defendant stole a total of ₦500,000. He also made it known to the court that during a police investigation, Godgift admitted to the crimes.

The prosecution said that ₦46,500 was recovered from her. The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code Law. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Presiding Judge, Sulyman Ola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N200, 000, with one surety in like sum.

The judge adjourned the matter until July 9, for hearing

Also, a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Sunday Markus, who allegedly abducted and defiled a teenager.

The Magistrate, Blessing Stephen, did not take the plea of Markus but ruled that he would be kept at a custodial center pending advice from the state director of public prosecutions. She adjourned the case until June 28 for mention.

Markus, a resident of Sarki Street, Kudenden in Kaduna, is charged with abduction and defilement.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Baba, Markus committed the offences on April 30 at his residence. Baba alleged that Markus took the 16-year-old from her house to his residence and had sexual intercourse with her, when her parents went for a church program.

“The suspect went to the girl’s room while she was sleeping, threatened to kill her if she shouted, dragged her into his vehicle and drove away to his house,” he submitted.

The prosecutor said the girl’s parents reported the case at a police station after some neighbors called them on the phone.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 283 and 253 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
